New Year greetings from the President of the Compostela Group of Universities

Let me wish you on a personal level a very happy 2015, and for your institution, its staff, students and alumni a fulfilling year. This is the last opportunity I have to send you these New Year greetings in my capacity as President of the Compostela Group and on behalf of my executive team. I shall have served for twenty years as member of the executive committee, including the maximum allowable two terms as president, so this September I shall step down, though I shall continue serving on the committee as past-president.

Meanwhile, in 2015, the CGU shall continue funding mobility and training opportunities through STELLA for Staff (intercontinental mobility for administrative staff) and STELLA Junior (international training for students). Furthermore, we shall pursue external funding for projects, and of course will run the IV CGU’s International Video Contest for Students (with the collaboration of Euronews) and workshops on highly relevant issues in HE. We shall also continue to exert influence and provide visibility on behalf of our members in the international arena through initiatives like the Poznan Declaration, the celebration of the XIX edition of the International Prize Grupo Compostela-Xunta de Galicia, and dissemination actions with the aid of our communication tools. Last, but not least, we shall continue our support to our members’ initiatives, serving them as a platform to provide their ideas with a solid international backup.

Many of our member institutions are seeking further externally funded activities to enhance the quality of teaching and student experience. The CGU is fully committed to support such efforts, within our means. These include: inviting our members to join CGU project applications (by different institutions), participating as a partner in their proposals, disseminating open calls for proposals, and assisting our members in the search for other partner universities. We kindly invite you to take a closer look at our experience in working on projects funded by the European Commission through this link. If you wish to include the CGU in your project proposal or learn how to optimize your institution’s membership, please visit our website, our social media, or contact the Secretariat at lucia.castro@usc.es and noelia.martinez.cagiao@usc.es or +34 881 812 931/4.

Finally, please remember to note our next big date in your diary, the CGU’s XXI General Assembly, taking place 24-26 September 2015 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Once again, on behalf of the executive of the Group, my best wishes for the New Year. I hope you agree that 2014 has been an exceptionally active year for the Group and we look forward to continuing working together in 2015.

Maurits van Rooijen

President of the Compostela Group of Universities
