Neelie Kroes-XV International Prize Compostela Group-Xunta de Galicia
The Jury of the XV International Prize Compostela Group-Xunta de Galicia, presided over by Mr. Xesús Vázquez Abad, Regional Minister of the Galician Government for Education and University Development, in delegation of the President of the Xunta de Galicia, and composed by Dr. Maurits van Rooijen, President of the Compostela Group of Universities; Dr. Juan Casares Long, Rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain); Dr. Salustiano Mato de la Iglesia, Rector of the University of Vigo (Spain); Dr. Katharina Krause, Rector of the Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany); Mr. Roberto Varela Fariña, Regional Minister of the Galician Government for Culture and Tourism; and, Mr. José Alberto Díez de Castro, General Secretary of the Galician Government for Universities, gathered in Santiago de Compostela, on 1st April, decided unanimously to award this present edition of the prize to
Mrs. Neelie Kroes
as acknowledgement to her work which represents the spirit of the Prize and the Group itself, fostering communication among different cultures and mutual understanding.
Born in the Netherlands, Neelie Kroes, has developed a long career in her country’s politic arena (she was chosen deputy at the national Parliament and served as Minister for Transport, Public Works and Telecommunication from 1982 to 1989) as well as at the obvious international level. She also held several positions both in the academic field (as President of Nyenrode University) and at company management. A very important aspect of her profile for being chosen XV Compostela Prize-Xunta de Galicia is her outstanding work with charity foundations, advising the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and World Cancer Research Fund.
